Graduate Program in Production Engineering

Research Groups

The Center for Advanced Studies for Decision Support (NEAAD) focuses on areas such as experimental design, optimization, discrete-event and agent- based simulation, Lean methodology, and project management. Collaborating with companies and funding agencies, NEAAD operates three main laboratories to support its research and training activities. LSim is equipped with advanced simulation software and maintains notable partnerships with Siemens PLM Software and FlexSim. LAPGOL is designed for hands-on teaching in operations and logistics management, utilizing tools like Lego® kits and audiovisual equipment to create an interactive learning environment. LFin, the finance lab, fosters skill development in a range of disciplines, including economics, accounting, statistics, production engineering, and programming.

LOGTRANS (Research Group in Logistics, Transportation, and Sustainability) focuses on spatial decision-making in Urban and Regional Planning, Transportation, and Logistics, primarily leveraging Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). In addition, the group emphasizes Geographic Science Education through human resource training and the development of educational tools related to Geography, Cartography, GIS, and GPS. Its Logistics, Transportation, and Sustainability (LogTrans) laboratory is equipped with GIS software—such as TransCAD, ArcGIS, and open-source platforms—alongside traffic simulation tools like VISSIM and decision-support systems for complex problems. The lab also features eight GPS devices for vehicle tracking, with all equipment (excluding furniture) funded by research grants from CNPq and FAPEMIG.

NOMATI (Center for Manufacturing Optimization and Technological Innovation) conducts research in manufacturing systems, product development, innovation management, and quality management, with the support of three mechanical technicians and several specialized laboratories. These facilities include LMAUT, which houses advanced machining and automation equipment; LIP, focused on product innovation with tools like SolidWorks and 3D printing; and the Metrology Laboratory, providing hands-on training in precision measurement. Other resources include LSolda, which supports various welding processes; LMD, offering high-precision dimensional measurement and calibration services; and the Laboratory of Numerical Methods, Quality, and Products, a dedicated postgraduate space equipped with specialized software and 24/7 biometric access.
